Why Debian Won (And Why Arch Lost)

In the Linux world, there is a constant war between "New" and "Stable." Arch Linux represents the cult of the New. Ubuntu represents the cult of the Corporate. Tebian chooses neither. We choose the Rock.

The Myth of "Bleeding Edge"

Arch Linux users (and by extension, users of derivatives like Omarchy) wear their "rolling release" status like a badge of honor. They believe that having the absolute latest version of a package today is superior to having a version that works tomorrow.

But let's look at the C-level reality. When a library updates—say, glibc or openssl—it changes the symbols that other programs expect to find. In a rolling release, these shifts happen constantly. Your system is a construction site. You are living in a building where the foundation is being poured while you sleep.

The Tebian Philosophy: We don't want a construction site. We want a fortress. Debian Stable (currently "Trixie" in our timeline) updates its foundation once every two years. Security patches flow like water, but the ABI (Application Binary Interface) is carved in stone. This is why Tebian servers run for 1,000 days without a reboot, while Arch systems panic after a pacman -Syu.

The Ubuntu Trap (Omakub's Fatal Flaw)

On the other side, we have Ubuntu. It is built on Debian, yes, but it has committed the cardinal sin of software: It thinks it knows better than you.

Ubuntu (and thus Omakub) forces Snap packages on you. Snaps are containerized applications that mount loop devices on boot. run lsblk on a fresh Ubuntu install and you will see a horror show of loopback devices. Each one of those is a tiny virtual machine, consuming RAM, increasing boot time, and adding friction to every app launch.

Tebian rejects this. We use apt (native Debian packages) or flatpak (if user-chosen). We do not pollute the mount table. We do not run background daemons to check for store updates. We respect the / partition.

The "C-Level" Stability Metric

How do we measure stability? Not by "uptime," but by Syscall Consistency. In Debian, the way the kernel speaks to userspace (the syscall interface) is extremely conservative. In Arch, kernel updates arrive weekly. This means your GPU drivers, your ZFS modules, and your VM hypervisors are constantly playing catch-up.

Tebian is designed for the developer who needs their tools to work exactly the same way on Friday as they did on Monday. If you are building a Rust compiler or training an LLM, you cannot afford "drift." Debian provides the stationary target that allows you to hit the bullseye.

The Universal Foundation

This is why Tebian is the "Greatest" base. It isn't because we are smarter than the Arch maintainers. It's because we stood on the shoulders of giants (Debian) and refused to jump off. We took the world's most stable operating system, stripped away the GNOME bloat, and polished the C-based core until it shone like glass.

Arch is a hobby. Ubuntu is a product. Debian is infrastructure. And Tebian is that infrastructure, weaponized for your desktop.
